If you were to wander across a high school campus, there are few who takes studies for the sake of learning, rather than the grades. And those few are often scolded by the majority of other students. Many laugh at those who studies, who reads, and who thinks. It is beyond my comprehension why that happens, any ideas?

the system is like that. they call the subjects requirments if they say thats a discouragement for anyone to study it.

besides the kids are having it easy in this country. they are treated like prince and princess and grow with a lot of ego and think that the day they get out of college they are going to get high paid job.

its just the parents and schooling systems fault. the courses are not challenging and tough enough.

You know that has always puzzled me. The best two guesses I have heard is 1) someone "cool" said learning was dumb and the herd followed 2) jealousy. Probably some combo of the two. I also personally think that kids like to rebel for the sake of rebellion, not necessarily for the sake of what they are rebelling against. In this case their parents probably promote learning and they then of course do the opposite. Not to mention not all learning is really an intellectual feast but just memorization of facts. For example, I think chemistry as a whole is fascinating but if you are just memorizing lists of organic reactions it can be painful. In that sense asking why kids don't like learning is like asking why they don't like running laps: it may have a benefit but it's just not fun. You know it's like the Plato cave allegory. Pulling someone out of the ignorance of the cave's false reality into the sunlight will be painful until their eyes adjust. Most people don't like pain.

Uh, I don't think the youth have the corner on the market. Everywhere I look, people want to cut corners and perform the most expedient thing - business, politics, war. I don't know if we have developed that way or we teach it to the young. Hey, let's get rid of Saddam - we can clean up the mess later. Forgive me. I just had to throw that in, not that I liked Saddam.

Ignorance is bliss....JK

Because those who didnt study think they are smartAsz.. they think those who study are nerd and stupid.. human.. but in the end, the one who have laugh last is the one who really study.

Afterall, hard work does pay at last.. In this world, there is not shortcut to success.. let them laugh but 10 years later u will see the difference..

Misery, and ignorance love company. There are so few people (left) who value the ethic of self improvement and self sacrifice. Ignore these people and don't let them drag you down. Do this and you will find your true friends. Put your head down and concentrate on improving yourself. High school helps develop your work ethic and with that, it's up to you to develop your wisdom.
