I've heard it used in reference to eating too much--being really full. Like someone might say, "I am so full, I feel like I have swallowed a bowling ball." Looks like the tummy is protruding like a little round bowling ball. More like a basketball, in some cases.

To me it would mean I am so upset about something that I feel like I have a bowling ball in my stomach. It could aslo happen after I've eaten something that has caused such distress that I can feel the ball with my hand. Either way, it's not a good thing.

Some folks refer to the bowling ball meaning I ate too much and they feel boated.

It is describing that guily or regrettful feeling that makes you feel almost sick. Similar to the saying "pit of my stomach" or "a heavy heart"

Female- I'd say she's pregnant.. cause a pregnant belly is heavy

Male- I'd say he got to relieve himself (#2)

Other angles: nerves are heavy, under a lot of pressure.

i've heard it used regarding extreme worry or regret. like something did/will happen that's making the person sick with concern.
