I'm 16 and live in hawaii. I got pulled over 2 weeks ago for drifting around a corner (I almost missed my turn and made the bad judgement of taking it anyway, this caused the rear wheels to drift slightly). A police observed me and wrote me up for "excibition of speed", and said he observed me taking the corner fast causing the vehicle to drift (I was in a F-250).

I didn't have proof of insurence for the officer at the time, but realized I did later. He gave me a family court summons and said they'd contact me with a court date. I havn't heard anything.

When I go to court i'm going to bring proof that I had insurence at that date and I'm going to tell them i'm sorry and made a bad judgement call from lack of experiance. Basically I'm just wondering what are my chances of getting my liscence suspended and what options do I really have?? Hard to plan trips this winter without knowing if I'm gonna be able to even drive! Thanks for any info!

Your license won't be suspended. You have a court date for lack of proof of insurance. Get a letter from your insurance agent stating that you do have coverage and did have coverage on the date of the citation. You can even turn that in BEFORE your court date. Just call the court clerk and ask him/her what you need to do. There are procedures for filing it and the clerk will know those procedures.

Not very, If anything you may get points on your license but I couldn't see a judge suspending your license for that. Its not like you were Speeding (I assume) over the Speed limit you just slid your tires. I'm surprised the cop actually wrote you a ticket, you wouldn't be going to family court for anything serious. It's probably just so your parents are aware.
