Check with your local trash company or city hall for the nearest green waste recycling center . Chances are they are listed in your local Yellow Pages. Most of these places charge by the ton with a $20 or $30 minimum .

usually nothing special about disposing of it - most towns with curbside pick up have certain times whey will pick up that kinda large debris, others with a dump will take them anytime but you have to haul it there and sometimes pay a fee, check with your local dump. you can always burn it in a backyard pit- permitted by most rural towns. if its a big tree and you live i a area that it gets cold- take out a add on like craigslist or local paper for free firewood.

Call your local Power Company (Electric) most companies are happy to get them. Right after Christmas, the power companies have a place for you to take the trees for recycling. Also call your local recyclers or City Hall, they can probably tell you.

Advertise in the newspaper for someone to cut the tree down in exchange for the wood. People want wood for their fireplaces. You just might get it all done for you.

Yes, you are right. In a truly free market you would be allowed to leave it in the middle of the street.
