It was based on Ed Gein

Judge for yourself. My uncle was there when they arrested him. He had furniture made out of dead women.

It's mostly fake.

Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs is also based on Gein

What Mali said was somewhat true. It was not based on Ed Gien who lived in Northern Wisconsin and, killed several women, was an admitted cannibal but, it got carried away.
His house was torched and he was killed in prison years later. He was said to have made several lamp shades from skin and had a heart in the fridge, a woman gutted out in the garage, like a deer.

There was a serial murder from Texas and these killings of course were adorned to make a good movie, if you want to call them that. I have never seen it.

More fake. There's a few things in the original movie about the character that are based on fact...but most of it's made up.
