They represent BOTH North Carolina and South Carolina. Here are some facts that support this: - Three flags are flown at Bank of America Stadium: the American flag, and the NC flag and SC flag on either side. - When the NFL was deciding where to put an expansion franchise, senators of both states (Ernest Hollings of SC and Jesse Helms of NC) lobbied the NFL for the Carolinas. The governors of each state (Jim Martin of NC and Carroll Campbell of SC) formed a blue-ribbon committee of citizens of each state to lobby the NFL. - To demonstrate support in the area before the franchise was granted, preseason games were held in Raleigh, NC, Chapel Hill, NC, and Columbia, SC. - The Panthers' first season was played in Clemson, SC. - The Panthers' annual training camp is held in Spartanburg, SC. - The team owner was born in NC but attended Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. - There is a rumor that the Panthers' logo is roughly the same shape as the outline of both states together. - Stadium sites in both states were considered, but ultimately Charlotte was the chosen location. - Charlotte is a border city, as the city limits extend all the way to the SC border. It also happens to be the biggest city between the two states. If Charlotte would have been on the SC side of the border, the Panthers would be located in SC. It's very fortunate for the Panthers that the largest city between the two states just happens to be on the border between the two.

Stadium is in North Carolina, but they chose to name the team Carolina to represent both states. And have you ever noticed that the logo is in the shape of a rough outline of the two states

technically i believe that the Carolina panthers belong to all of Carolina, the way that the Seattle Seahawks belong to the pacific northwest & until L.A gets a team again, the 'bolts belong to all of SoCal!
