it annoys me because when the chargers out the screen dims so my charger is always in and im scared overcharging it will do damage.

No, lithium ion batteries, such as the one in your cell phone or laptop in this case, are designed to withstand overcharging. However, it is normally a good idea to let your battery drain completely once every month or so, and then give it a complete recharge before using it again. This resets the battery's "memory" and will allow for a longer life span. Yup, batteries have memories. :)

P.S. The screen dims so that it uses less energy when you're running strictly on a battery.

No, it won't overcharge. They way a battery charges means it's physically impossible to overheat/overcharge it.

It's not like water filling up a bucket, where excess would spill out all over the place.

The battery is absolutely fine when left like this. At work, some people have their laptops permanently plugged in. It's fine.

Many laptops are used as desktops and stay plugged in for years. The charger is smart enough to know when the battery is charged and not hurt it.

Nope. The electronics inside laptops will stop trying to charge the battery when it's full.
