When Its on it sounds really rough then kind of stops and goes eh!

Did you check and see if there is anything inside that is jamming the disposal? They aren't that expensive, this will give you a chace to get one that is more powerful and quieter. Go ahead and replace it anyway. good luck.

Make very sure that it is turned off, or better yet turn off the circuit breaker as well, and then put your hand in and turn it manually. It may have something stuck in the impeller. That's the little fan like blade, inside. Some of them come with an Allen wrench for turning this from underneath.

I buy 1/2 horse cheap disposals (ISE badger)and replace them every few years. I always have a new one. They all get weaker as they age, even the expensive ones.
