Makita 7 1/4 inch. I worked as a site joiner for 10 years and this was my circular saw all that time. It got an absolute hammering and never let me down-in fact I still have it in the shed, still workig perfectly. Change the blade when it gets blunt to ease strain on the motor and a Makita saw will never let you down. Don't be tempted by DeWalt tools, they are made by the same firm that owns Black & Decker, and while they are a decent power tool, Makita are far superior

Hi. Mike L @ answer No1 is spot on.....Go for Makita.
They are a little bit dearer than some other makes, but will work out a lot cheaper in the long term as they are very well made and reliable.
Personally, I can't recommend DeWalt, in my experience they are poorly made and way too expensive for their lack of quality.
There is very little difference in price between the two, but a big difference in the quality, AND how long they last.

For around the house (handyman) 71/4" Makita- easy to use and light and somewhat durable. To do real work with, hands down the 71/4" Skilsaw, it'll last your lifetime.

Everybody like their favorite brand. Me too. Most manuf. sell under more than one brand. Black and Decker also owns Hilti now. There are differences between their brands, and price is somewhat of an indicator. I like Porter Cable. Usually only find them at places that deal mostly with professionals but I think they are worth a few more bucks.

I bought a Black and Decker Professional saw some 35 years ago when I started my business. Still going strong. Never had any problem. Bear in mind, the best drill in the shop will not last long if it isn't treated properly.

Makita or Dewalt, both are designed for the professional that needs them in everyday use. A professional would also be probably looking for 120volt models for use on building sites
