I live in Florida, and started a job about a month ago. I am going to be leaving the job as the rules and what they want from their employees is crazy. But here is my main question. I get paid $8.50 per hour. My manager told us in the start of the job that if we quit and not give 2wks notice that we would get paid, but they would job us down to our states min pay. (florida) Can they do that? Also, we get 1% Commission per sale can they take that away from us?

Two weeks notice is a courtesy in the State of FL not mandatory. FL is an " at will"state where you are not required to provide any notice at all. Unless you signed a document to that effect, they cannot withhold any money you have earned.

Did you sign any sort of agreement or employment conract when you were hired that stated you would earn $8.50 per hour? If not, I would imagine that they could reduce your pay to the state's min. wage, as they are not obligated to pay you more than that. If you signed any sort of agreement or employment contract at the time of hire, I would suggest getting a copy of it and reviewing it. Perhaps you signed something stating that you agree to get paid min. wage if you don't give notice.

By law they can not. They cannot dock your pay because you didnt give two weeks notice. It is a courtesy. They have to pay you whatever it is you have earned unless you signed a document contrary to the laws of your state of employment. However, even if you did sign something to this fact, if it goes to court, the company will most likely be fined because they are knowingly creating bylaws that go against state laws. but two weeks is not that long. give the two weeks and be done with it.

Start here http://www.florida.gov I don't know Floriday laws, but that wouldn't fly anywhere else in the country. Two weeks notice is a courtesy, not a legal requirement.

yes they can, you knew the company policy when you took the job. As long as they pay federal and state minimum wages.

You need to call the wage and hour board. You need to give 2 weeks notice.

They cannot do that legally. They have to pay you your normal wage plus whatever commision you earned.

No, they cannot do that. Call your states Labor board and report them.
