You might think of it like this JOE. They've been here for 230 million years and will be long after we are gone. They can live without a head for days. They have an exoskelton and ADAPT as fast as nanobots.
They are not immune to all however, although their evolutionary processes and that adaptability often create immunity to many chemicals we as a socitey spend billions buying.
Another consideration is that there are multiple species, all with specific characteristics. I suspect TIME might be an issue for you? They might just be wise enough and communicating well enough to be like the mouse that knows not to go for a piece of cheese in a snap trap.
I personally like the sole of my shoe for erradication

The boric acid crystals cut into their "coat" and kills them slowly by dehydration, much like diatomaceous earth. Have you ever dehydrated anything? It takes some time, not three hours. You can try one of two choices: Hire an exterminator to spray toxic chemicals all around your yard and home and get them NOW? Or sprinkle some boric acid (borax) here and there and wait a few days for them to die? You be the judge, it's your home you're living in.

I've never had any luck with boric acid. I put those roach traps under my fridge, in the kitchen drawers and in my closets, and used that stuff in a tube, I think the brand is Combat, and ran lines of that inside my kitchen cabinets and bathroom cabinets too. The people downstairs still have roaches but I have NONE.

It seems that it takes awhile. I read this that says it kills in two ways:
(1) The stuff gets on the waxy coating on the critter's hide (or "exoskeleton") and partially dissolves it, whereupon the cockroach dehydrates and croaks.
(2) The borax acts as an abrasive, causing microscratches in said coating. Cockroach dehydrates, etc.

Leave em in their awhile. It takes time for Boric acid to work, what will see is they will eat each other. That is what kills the bugs off. They literally eat each other.
