DH is trying to start grad school in 2009 and we are debating when to have children. We know we want to have one while he is in, but are not sure to try for next year or it being born right before school. I am a teacher so job is not a worry. What do you think?

A lot of it depends on what DH is studying. I know that at my university in Michigan, part of the grad program is being a graduate teaching assistant for some undergrad class in your area of study, which would take up more time than just taking classes and studying. A newborn baby is about the most dependent thing on this earth, as it should be. It is counting on it's parents to care for it's every need. If DH has to worry about his thesis, exams, and tests he has to grade, he may get extremely rundown in the process of 3am feedings and diaper changes.

My suggestion: IF YOU ARE BOTH READY, try to have the baby so that it will be a year or two old when grad school is started. By then, baby is still dependent, but has a little bit of a sense of how to communicate needs.

Good luck!

It depends on if you can handle working and supporting him in school and taking care of a child. Infant, I think, other than the loss of sleep is easier than the toddler years. At least with infants you don't have to chase them.
