Hi Poppy
If you look in the skies over the north of England during a clear day, you will see the trail of an aircraft going round in a large circle (between Newcastle and Manchester).
This is a British AWAC that has been flying this route for quite some time now.
Dont think that the present sighting of a Russian bomber is a new development, every now and then, tit bits of information leak out from miltary sources, like this one about the bomber.
It goes on cnstantly, perhaps this one was a little closer to British shores, but is no different to the American planes constantly sent up to monitor things off the Russian shores.
I dont even think you can call it "Cat and Mouse", it is simply to let the other side know that you have your eye on what is going on.
The Russians at the moment are having a bit of a push on the "Flex your muscles" syndrome, whilst Putin pacifies the rants of the old "Reds" who are screaming still for world domination.
Planting flags on the seabed of the Arctic, flying bombers close to British shores, war games with China, "Hey look how tough we are!"
Dont worry, have a dozen babies, we need lots of airmen to fly in the AWACS over the North of the UK.
cheers

Hi Poppy,
The spy plane that tried and failed to intrude on our air space is nothing but a survailance aircraft, the only weapons it has on it are a few pop guns ( meaning self defence guns.....nothing that would do us much harm). The plane does not have a bomb bay or the capability to carry a payload.
Not to mention that to get to us the Russians have to fly over several friendly countries who have in the past escorted Russian aircraft out of their own airspace, but if it did get through we have some of the best interceptors namely the Eurofighter (Typhoon) and Tornados.
Don't let something like this put you off having a baby, the threat is low. Mr cameroon would not be able to do anything more than the current PM would be able to do...our military resources would stay the same.
Hope this puts your mind a rest.
xx

There is no need for you to be nervous. The kind of aircraft which the Russians are sending to check out NATO airspace over the North Sea, are vintage 1970s propeller driven monsters.
Back in the dark days of the 'cold war', these flights were an almost daily occurance. The Royal Air Force always meet them well outside UK airspace.
The Russians are not going to drop anything anywhere near UK or anywhere else. It's really just a game and keeps them and us on our toes.
Do not be alarmed.
I lived through the Blitz on London, but we managed somehow. What is happening today is as nothing by comparison.
UK are having an argument with the Russians - that's really all there is to it. Bear snarls, Lion Roars etc.

wether the Russians are bluffing or not is really irrelevant. There are always things going on in this world that would worry you if you knew about them. There is never a right time to have a child. If you feel you could give a child a loving home and lots of loving then just have one, work the problems out as the arise. Don't make issues where none exist.

Don't worry about the Russian planes. Mr Putin is just bluffing. He dare not even think about carrying atom bombs on these planes. It just meant to be a show of strength. Don't forget we have nuclear subs which could blow all the major cities in Russia to bits if anything happened.and they do have atomic weapons.Certainly vote for Mr. Cameron as Brown and his do gooders cant even halt the rising crime in our own country/

Russia still has a formidable military.
They need to keep their forces active, to stop stagnation.
They are playing "cat and mouse" games, which was common practise during the cold war.
Did they have a nuclear bomb on board?
I doubt it, Russia still has enough intercontinental missiles to wipe out most cities in the UK and the US!

You're obviously too young to remember the cold war.
The constant nuclear posturing and daily fear of nuclear war.
There wasn't a day went by when a Russian Bear bomber didn't encroach into UK airspace, and the RAF would scramble a couple of Lightning's or Phantoms to escort it back out of our airspace.
Quite often, they were never armed. They were often on recconnaisance missions, and they were just probing our defences to measure how quickly we reacted.
Don't Panic.

The Russians are not dumb enough to do something like that. Perhaps if things get more tense between us they may have some ready to go with nukes but they will use missiles not bombers. Those bombers would never reach the coast of the US. Europe is venerable but not us to aircraft attacks.

Nobody knows except their dictator, a select few associates, a few military officers, and the pilots/retainers involved. That is the whole point. It is a "probably not but maybe" that makes other countries fearful so as to satiate the traditional Russian paranoia of invasion.
