Yes. The solenoid is an electrical switch, the starter is a mechanical motor.

Same theory: the light fixture can be good even if the wall switch is bad.

A starter can test good even if the solenoid is failing. Most solenoid failures result in intermittant functioning of the starter.. which can make it appear everything is working normally. Once the solenoid has completely failed, the starter will no longer function whatsoever or will spin freely without engaging the flywheel.

Yes it can I had this problem with my old car. the solenoid was bad but the starter was fine. But the thing is.. Some cars have a starter where the solenoid is attached to the starter and you have to buy the WHOLE thing (whole starter I ment) But hopefully you can get just a soleniod for yours. good lck

Sure it can. Try by passing the solenoid with the hot wire and see if the starter turns over the engine.

Sure. But that doesn't do you much good if the solenoid is built into the starter. If that's the design you have, you have to replace the whole starter.

this question is faulty.
he never said what the heck Show Pos. results means)
it could mean stater passes 100% at Autozone but not in car.
it could mean jumping the two large terms makes starter spin in car, so how can this happen if solenoid is bad.
obviouslly the solinoid is bad if the Key line is hot and it does nothing.
malformed question.

Yes! The starter motor can be good and the solienoid is bad. But depends on the vehicle you talking about, cause some have it built together.
