After I start it up, the motor just dies. I have gas in it. I can't figure it out.

Clean the air filter with starter fluid. Take out the foam and spray out the gunk. Reinstall.

The carbs in those things are made to keep the engine a constant speed as you vary the load. They get gummed up and a diaphragm inside them tears sometimes. It's a good bet the carb is the problem when you can start it with the choke but it won't stay running.

Check the fuel filter,line,cap for a clog.

It could be several things. A bad spark plug or maybe a clogged air filter.

New plug, new air filter, change oil but don't overfill.
