I'm not picking sides. I've read his bio and looked over Wiki but I am still looking at black and white answers. This is a serious question so if you have any background info on which side is correct and can back it up...you rock!

He's certainly no Hitler as he never orchestrated any state-sponsored genocide of millions nor has he sought to invade other nations. Though the Castro regime has been know to jail political adversaries and persecute dissenters with unfair "show trials," many of the allegations made by influential exile groups have been found to be a bit exaggerrated or even completely fabricated. Nevertheless, Castro still has ardent support. It's no wonder he's survived this long, outlasting (as of now) 9 US presidencies.

He could have been considered a military genius as he was successful in overthrowing a very formidable opponent in the US-backed Batista regime, not to mention easily brushing off the botched Bay of Pigs invasion by US forces.

To some, Castro is a hero; to others he's a dictator bent on suppressing opposition to hold onto power. Both sides are correct in many of their arguments, but no side paints a complete objective picture of his history. His will be a mixed legacy.

I don't think that Fidel Castro is like Hitler, but he is no genius either.

Many people view historical figures as God-like or demonize them.

I personally consider Castro as not that great. If Castro's Cuba is so great, why have so many risked their lives to flee that country? History has shown that a people will seek to flee the government of a tyrant (refugees from Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union). Many of those who hero-worship Castro also vilify President Bush, but they have not left the United States.

In politics and religion there is no black and white. There is good and bad in Castro. It is all a matter of perspective. There are people alive, even today, who believe Hitler was right.

Maybe you should ask all of the Cubans who get on any piece of debris they can find that floats and try to get the hell out of "the workers paradise" and into the U.S. Anyone who has ever escaped communism can tell you it SUCKS for everyone other than the "leaders" like Castro. Your answer is that he is a truly evil man.

People see him as a genius because he figured out a way to live longer than cockroaches. And people see him as Hitler because his people are starving and he persecutes people.

I think the fact that people risk their lives and their children's lives to flee CUba speaks volumes about Castro.

Just because you are evil or insane, doesn't mean you aren't a genius.

considering the number of Cubans who have risked their lives to make it the 90 miles to the united states in any thing that will float. I'm prone to go along more with the hitleresque description.
