California has born the brunt of deaths in the Iraq war (21%), including the tragic deaths of two of the three Hubbard brothers from Clovis, California. U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, D-California, has joined forces with Senators Biden and Brownback--not to form the Democrats Whose Names Begin with the Letter B club--but to call for a responsible end to the Iaq war.

California is likely to be a key state in 2008. What is your opinion of a Biden-Boxer ticket?

It's hard to follow all the news, but everyonje should know that California is leaning toward changing from a winner-take-all state. The new proposal is to win electoral votes by winning individual congressional districts. If this had been the case in 2004, instead of winning 55 electoral votes, John Kerry would have won 33 and George Bush 22--which makes California more of a key state than Ohio.

My opinion is that Boxer isn't running, and Biden has a long way to go to overcome the Clinton machine and the media's complacency and semi-promotion of the "top tier" candidates. He has to overcome the ignorance of America. He just has to get his message out there, and I think his plan for Iraq is attractive to many conservatives as well.

The electoral votes initiative won't pass - It will be seen as a power grab by Republicans and voters don't want to change it, if they even understand it. I however do support it - maybe then it will put the electoral college system into the national spotlight and how the winner-take-all system is not the best thing we can do. At least maybe then candidates will actually campaign here. It is afterall the largest state and the largest prize to take from the electoral college vote.

Boxer won't be U S Senator in 2010, so she better try something, but not on the 2008 ticket. Biden would laugh at this question for sure. Get a grip guy, Boxer is an overwhelming f***up.

I don't think California will be a key state. It has been solidly democratic for some time now and I don't think anyone will be surprised when it goes blue again.

The swing states I think will be similar to the ones from '00 and '04 and that is where the Presidency will be won and loss.

I'd prefer an Obama -Edwards ticket actually.

Bad idea. Boxer is an idiot who is off in la-la land. As my Senator, I once wrote to her to vote for increased funding and support for our troops. She wrote back and said she would not do that. Then she put me on her environmental newsletter celebrating pork spending on $15 billion for a 20,000 acre habitat for an endangered squirrel.

When I wrote back saying I would rather see the $15 billion invested in body armor and technology for our troops in Iraq rather than go to a squirrel that will not stay in the habitat and get crunched by the tires of a CA driver, she took me off the newsletter and has not responded to me since. Even after I asked her how driving a massive Chrysler sedan from her residence in D.C. two blocks to the Capitol building helped the environment.

Babs Boxer is a total space cadet.

I remember Barbara Boxer from when I lived in California in the early nineties. Two of her statements have stuck with me.

The first was when she railed about the military base closings in California. She campaigned that the Pentagon should not be closing bases in the US, while keeping bases in foreign nations. In this, Senator Boxer cited American military bases in Germany, Japan, and Guam. Guam? Evidently she did not know that Guam is not a foreign country, but an American territory.

The other episode concerned Senator Boxer's anger over wasteful military spending. She cited the usual examples (hundreds of dollars for hammers and toilet seats), before she visualized her evidence. Boxer explained that the US Navy was buying tool boxes for $500, while waving a plastic Wal-Mart type empty tool box that she said he bought for about $10. I and my fellow shipmates on a US Navy ship laughed at that, as they Navy never bought plastic tool boxes and the tool boxes we did buy for $500 were large metal tool chest (about five feet high) that were filled with tools. Somebody should have suggested the Senator Boxer go to Sears and try to buy a metal tool chest of that size, complete with tools, for $500.

That experience lead me to two conclusions: either Barbara Boxer was lying for political gain or she was really stupid. Either way, is that the type of person you want in the White House?
