I'm really craving some good gumbo, but I'm stuck in Cambridge--where can I go?

Clam Chowder is Boston's "gumbo."

That said, there are still a couple of places that serve decent gumbo.

SoupWorks
20 N Washington St
North Attleboro, MA 02760-1606
Phone: (508) 699-5073
(Call ahead they only offer a crab version on a rotating basis.)

Columbus Cafe
535 Columbus Ave
Boston, MA 02118
Phone: (617) 247-9001
(Slow service, but highly rated seafood gumbo.)

Orleans Restaurant and Bar
65 Holland St
Somerville, MA 02144
Phone: (617) 591-2100
(Notice that there is no "New" in the name. However, it's one of the few places in the area to serve Creole and Cajun. Call to see if they have the gumbo on the menu.)

Gumbo Restaurant
411 State Rd
North Dartmouth, MA 02747
Phone: (508) 992-4945
(A drive for you, but cheap and fast.)

Newport Blues Cafe
286 Thames St
Newport, RI 02840
Phone: (401) 841-5510
Specialties: Live Music Venue
Hours: Thu-Sat 6pm-2am
Newport is fun to visit while you are in the area, but call ahead to make sure they are serving it.

You could check, too, to see if these restaurants. I've heard pretty good things about them (I've been to Bob's), which I know may not be the same as New Orleans food or even having Gumbo.

Bob's has menus on the website. You may not get your fill of Gumbo there, but they do have great jazz!

Bob's Southern Bistro
604 Columbus Ave Boston

Picasso Creole Cuisine Incorporated
1296 Blue Hill Ave
Mattapan, MA 02126-1806
Phone: (617) 296-1300
(No menus, bring a friend who speaks Haitian.)

There's a lot of pre-Superbowl coverage every year no matter who's playing. That's why they went back to two weeks between the conference championship games and the Superbowl. They couldn't fit all the hype into one week.

There are people who call their favorite restaurants in New Orleans and have it shipped. It's well worth it, too !!!
