EP will record three times as long as SP

In the USA, you will get the following recording times (They are different in Europe):

With the most common length tape (T-120), you will get 2 hours recording on SP or 6 hours recording on EP.

You can also buy a longer tape (T-160) which will record 2:40 in SP mode or 8 hours in EP mode. The T-160 tapes are more fragile than the more common T-120 tapes and are more expensive.

EP is 6 hours on a 2 hour tape, video quality is barely viewable and the sound is not as good. SP has better video and sound but records 2 hours on a 2 hour tape.

I think EP is extended play. I believe that gives you longer recording time. You could just test it using the counter :)
