the elevation of a mountain has a lot of effect on rainfall (precipitation), the very high mountains acumilate clouds and as these clouds build up , tiny water particles in the clouds join together. When they are big and heavy enough they fall as rain, but on the other side of the mountain would be dry cause there is little or no clouds getting thruogh.

The elevation is proportional to the atmospheric pressure of the area, is most likely to have rain an a mid-high elevation terrain depending on the soil type and trees population, etc. You can check on Wikipedia for Atmospheric Pressure and it will lead you rain activity and behavior depending on different facts.
