im wondering which of these cards are the best for gaming and which are more reliable and have the best preformance. The HD2900XT, easily. DirectX version is irrelevant, if you can only use DX10 on Vista, if you have XP then the 2900XT will run in DX9 mode anyway. If you have the money for it, get it no questions asked.

If your going for DX10, the 2900XT 512MB card is for you, but if you want to stick with DX9, then the 7900GS is for you. Now, it all depends on your CPU, because if you an okay CPU (I.E Single Core) Then I wouldn't recommend the 8600GTS or 2900XT because your computer will just bottleneck. If you have a dual core or quad core, go with the 2900XT, because it has more Graphics Memory (512MB).
Bottem Line:
Single Core Computer:
7900GS ore 7600GS
Dual Core (or better) Computer:
2900XT
