I recently experienced a sudden loss of hearing in one ear. It was preceeded by an itchy throat, and followed by an ear infection. (The ear infection itself is unrelated to the hearing loss. The infection was caused by me repeatedly sticking my germy finger in my ear and shaking it around, trying to get my ear to 'pop'.) There is no sense of pressure on the ear drum.

Doc gave antibiotic drops for ear infection. He said that the eardrum was not perforated. The drops are helping, but of course are having no effect on the hearing loss.

Chewing gum, yawning, shaking head, using 'Swimmers Ear' (vinegar and alcohol), and olive oil don't help.

It may not be the eustacian tube, but if not, I have no idea what it could be.

Not really... you don't know where the block is.
All the stuff you mentioned is at the ear drum, but the tube runs from the ear and drains at the back of the throat.
Just let the meds and your immune system take it's course.

Have you tried a decongestant?

It just takes time for the swelling in the ear to go down and then your hearing will return
