What should the punishment be for the criminal that killed that innocent kid?

I personally think they should get life, it doesn't matter what age they are, a killer is a killer.

By life I don't mean what the UK justice systems version of life is, which is a few years in a youth detention centre while getting holidays and then back to watch television and play pool with other criminals.

I mean life in a cell and you come back out in a box.

Anyway, what do you think?

Thanks

I agree with you 100%. Life should mean life.

Impossible! Guns were banned!

Really it depends on a lot on why this kid did it. If he knew what he was doing (and yes, an 11 year old is capable of understanding what murder is) then he will always be a danger to society and expensive to keep alive. The task then becomes how to keep him apart from society for the longest time possible. Does British law allow a youth to be declared insane and so held until doctors agree that he is not a danger (if ever) to society? If there are mitigating circumstances, then perhaps getting out of youth detention with a new-found education on how to succeed as a criminal doesn't seem so good either. Perhaps a foster home under very close supervision with psychiatric care would b a better option.

Obviously I do not know the background of this. If this was an adult shooting a child that was not threatening him, then the only answer in my mind is execution.
