I'm really into acting and I want to get involved in films, but getting an agent seems to be annoyingly difficult.

Be careful! Acting and modeling seem to be "hot" markets right now so every unethical jerk is suddenly a photographer and agent.

Beware of anyone who is asking for large upfront fees. Anyone who says you need a great portfolio and they can give you one.....for $450.!

I know someone who thought they were on their way to the big time! They had an "agent" who was going to send them to Florida (for more than it would cost to fly down through a travel agent) and was going to get a chance to show herself off to dozens and dozens of potential clients. Wow, was that ever a scam.

Ask people if they know anyone who has ever done any commercial or tv or movie acting work and who they used.

It is best to get a referral from someone who was happy with the results they got from their agent.

good luck.

Hi,

first of all, make sure that you are ready for an agent. Remember that an agent wants to make money. To make money he/she needs to represent people/actors who are good enough to get work.

So the first thing you should do is to be able to act, which means get training.

Here are a couple of pages on my site that might help you with regard to getting an agent and getting started in general:
http//www.actingcareerstartup.com/how_to_get_an_agent.html . This is how I operated when it came to getting two agents and a personal manager as well as extra work and getting casting directors to call me directly.
If you doubt that acting classes are necessary then have a look at: http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/taking_acting_classes.html .

Hope that helps!

can be very difficult especially if you have no experience or are not stunningly beautiful the transformation from school plays to films is not a quick and easy one, it usually take several years of hard work...if you are up to it, let me know, I help people become actors.
