Why do people wear corsets?

I have a project to do and I wanted to get people opinions on why they wear corsets. The more people that answer the question the better thanks.

Well I see you have many replies but from those who don't wear corsets.

I both make and wear corsets and these are the experiences I have for myself and from others I know who wear them. For any individual it could be any one or more of the reasons listed below.

1) tummy control
2) hourglass figure
3) give a waist where you didn't have one previously (or not much)
4) back support
5) historical reinactments
6) fetish
7) they love to feel the "hug"
8) the love of the tiny waist
9) fashion statement
10) gender change (figure) appearance
11) cross dressing
12) sexual attraction (to attract)
13) figure enhancements

Well, no one today wears corsets....

But back around in the 1700s', women thought that really skinny, slim,curvy bodies were sexy.Corsets gave them an hour glass shape. So all the women wore corsets to make them look skinnier, slimmer, & curvier.The corsets had about 6 strings on each side on the back of the corset. Someone had to help the women wearing the corset tie it tight because they have to tie the strings very, very tight. The tighter it was, the skinnier the woman looked. Good Luck on your project. ;-)

not many people nowadays wear corsets endless it's under a dress or as a shirt...the reason is to define their shape more and also some guys might find it sexy(the shirts) when corsets were 1st made they were like bra's too because they hold and lift. now even skinny people wear them to define curve and also because some dresses look better with them even skinny people can have little bumps in a tight dress. also when they were 1st made it was thought that it would inline your spine making you have a straight spine.

Corsets define your shape giving you the so longed after hour-glass shape, while holding in any "extra baggage" that you and the gym haven't gotten rid of yet. The more modern type corsets are the beloved Spanx, they work wonders but without making it so that you can't breath.

The corset is like a beautiful mold, when I wear it I feel like its sculpted me into that mold. Not the most comfortable thing ever but sexy for me.

The only people I know nowadays who wear corsets are historical re-enactors. They wear the corsets because without them, the clothing doesn't fit the way it would have back in the day.

i think there is a sense of sensuality attached to viewing a woman in a corset. its almost like beauty with naughtiness.
i think women feel empowered sexually while wearing them, it embraces and makes curves look a certain way.

people wear corsets to slim the waist make it look really tiny like 20 inches and to make them selves look slimmer I think victoria Beckham wore one once

It makes your waist appear smaller and pushed up your breasts, giving the appearance of an hourglass figure. I don't wear them, but that's why some people do.
