The character had no name other than the nickname Fes. In the episode where he is asked his name as the bell rings, the actor playing Fes stated he said the names of all the main characters run together. Then the bell stops ringing and Hyde says "Never remember that" and decides to call him Fes. Fes stood for Foreign Exchange Student.

If you look at the spelling in the show credits on the website you'll see that the name is actually spelled Fes. It is really an acronym for Foreign Exchange Student. This is because the writers of the show couldn't come up with a better name for him.

So , it has been established that Fes stands for foreign exchange student. Also the school bell thing is true. When it is ringing he is saying the names of the actors (tophar grace, danny masterson, ashton kutcher). At least that is what he said in an interview.

Every time he says his real name, some type of sound blocks it out, like a school bell or something similar. If you read his lips, he is simply saying the first names of all the show's characters in one big long string.
