I've worked in Finance, a job I tolerated, for substantial pay. Work was ehh, but I was able to buy nice stuff and live comfortably. I also worked as a cartoonist for a newspaper. $20 a comic I was paid. I loved doing the work, but the $20 per comic wasn't even enough for a large pizza!

Hmmm...tough choice.

Do the comics on the side. You cannot live on $20 man.

I'm a computer operator at a distribution center. My job is generally not challenging, and I have periods of paid down time during my shifts. I love it.

I could make a lot more money in a faster paced, more stressful setting. But I'm the type who'd rather be happy than to make a few more bucks and have to put up with a lot of crap.

I had about a dozen jobs in my life before I found my current position, and I've had to deal with it all: pushy bosses, incompetent co-workers, super fast-paced environments, dirty environments. I have none of that now.

I think most people dislike their jobs, so I feel lucky. If you have a job that you like a lot, and the pay meets your standard of living, then, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I mean, isn't it everyone's goal to attain HAPPINESS? Sure, more money can get you nice things, but after you've had those things for a while, the joy fades. All the while you've taken a position, or accepted a set of responsibilities that contribute to unhappiness...No thanks.

These days where you're at work more than you are home with your family or your friends, it's tough being in a job you don't like, but you won't be any happier not being able to afford the things you like either. It's tough but you should probably stay with the higher paying job and try to make time for the things you enjoy . . . maybe the comic book thing on the side.

Sadly, in today's world, money's MUCH more of a factor than it was way back when. Maybe in the 1970's, if I were alive and it didn't make a difference, I'd take the job I loved, but work in general isn't SUPPOSED to be fun. It's WORK!

That said, the job I tolerate for substantial pay.

Your question can't be answered without knowing what's your status.
I don't know your age.
If you have your own place to live.
If you have family that depends on you.
If the job you love, working hard permits to live with dignity.
PW many comics you can make a month.
And more.
The answer would be if you can sustain yourself and those that depends on you, if there are, at all. Work where you love.
If not the answer is clear you have to earn your living and if possible enjoy the second one as a partial job, for the time being.

Show me the money!!!
A job is a job. Yes, it would be nice if you loved it, I've had jobs like that and it didn't even seem like work. I would have done it for free. But, when you leave work, having money helps you enjoy life. It would be nice to have the best of both worlds, but given your choices, I'll take the cash and tough it out for 40 hours a week.

It would depend on my living situation... I live in Denver and the cost of living is high and to be able to do the things that make me happy outside of work. I need a high paying job even if it sucked. but... I'm from a small town in new mexico and the cost of living is cheap. So I would look for a job that made me happy. I worked for the YMCA and lived in a 350 sq ft mud hut in new mexico and now I live in a 900sq ft loft with a view of the skyline and my job sucks, I would never go back to new mexico! But i am always looking for a great job i LOVE with great pay.

For you, apparently, work hard in a job that is tolerated for substantial pay, save and invest, quit that job, and then do something that is loved for minimal pay.

"Love" of a job that pays poorly will not pay the bills.

For me, it's about the substantial pay.

I, as well, work in Finance, know exactly what you mean. But it pays my living, I can't complain about it. You are lucky to have a side job that you like, keep both jobs! Finance full time, & comic part time, do your part time job in your full time hours, get double pay. Awesome!

It depends on your situation, I think I would do the job I tolerate first and save all I could, then when I couldn't tolerate it anymore then I would do the job I love and spend my savings.
