I have 3 boys all premature, My first was 36 weeks and weighed 10 lbs, my second was 34 weeks and weighed 6 lbs 10 oz, my third, was barely 32 weeks and weighed in at 6 lbs 6 oz. They all came home with me 3 days after delivery. My second was on a ventilator for almost a day but was completely fine after taken off. My third son at 2 months old stopped breathing while my father was holding him, his heart stopped and I had to do CPR until the ambulance came, They called it a caught SIDS case and said if he hadn't of been being held and I didn't know infant CPR we would have lost him, and also said they preemies are more susceptible to SIDS. Also I never had gestational diabetes, everyone asks because of there weight. I Know have 3 wonderful boys, 2 years 9 months, 17 months, and 5 months old......Such Blessing.......Bless you and your new bundle!!!

I went into labor with my first at 32wks. I was put on the terb pump (and other stuff much more strong) and finally got to go home (on the pump with a home monitoring system) at 34 wks. I had my son at 36 wks. He was 7 lbs 13.6 oz and 19" long. He was extremly jaundice, really low blood sugar, body twitches and couldn't keep his body temp up. He went home with me after 48 hrs in the hospital. He was given a home nurse for 2 wks that stopped by to check on him and his billirubin levels and he had a wallaby blanket. He is now 5 years old and he still has the twitch was diagnosed as hyperreflexia diplegia, mild asthma and hypoglycemia but he is 50 lbs and 50" tall so he is doing great. He goes to his second year of preschool this year.
My 2nd son again I was 32 wks when i dialated to 3 cm and 80% effaced. They gave me the terbutiline since it worked with the first and I was able to be at home on bedrest until 36 wks. I gave birth to him at 36 wks and he weighed in at 8 lbs 9.7oz and 21" long. He had a hard time passing the hearing tests but eventually barely passed. He was jaundice. He was doing really great. Took him home after 48 hrs and when he was 3 days old he started showing signs of Croup. He had croup from the time he was 3 days old until he turned 6 months old and also had thrush pretty much for 4 months. He now has asthma that requires daily treatments, peanut allergy and has allergy medicine. He is 2 1/2 years old and weighs 30 lbs and is 37" tall now.

My son was 6 weeks early and was also 5 lbs 6 oz. He was a little small for the first 2 years (25th percentile on the growth chart) , but other than that he has not had any problems. Congratulations!!!!!!

I went into labor at 32 weeks. I was then airlifted to a hospital 2 hours away. When my girls were born they weighed 3lbs 2oz and 3lbs 3oz. One of them had to be put on a ventilator for a few days. The other one could breathe on her own. I was able to take them home when they were 3 weeks old. They weighed 4lbs when we left the hospital. How every they had to have heart monitors for 5 months after they were born. They are now 14 months old and very healthy.

My sister in law had a premature baby sometime in her seventh month. Julia only weighed 4 lbs when she was born, this was 5 years ago. Now she is gigantic! She is the tallest 5 year old I know, she is so smart and outgoing. She does suffer from allergies and asthma (but she may have anyway, there is that in the family.)
The doctors and nurses at the hospital are all too often fingered in blame. And never given the accolades that they deserve.
Reading Hospital, in Reading Pa saved my nieces' life and my sister in law (pre-eclampsia).

My water broke at 36 weeks. At first the doc told me I would have to deliver in the ICU and baby would have to stay a while. Then he told me that I could deliver normally, and baby would stay in the NICU for a week or so, but I could go home. As it turned out, she was fine. 5 lbs 13 oz. She had a bit of fluid in her lungs, so they gave her a bath to help her cry it out. She went home with me 3 days later. Now she's fine, and actucally really long for her age.
Good luck with your little angel!

I work with premature babies, most of whom are born between 24-28 weeks and spend months in the hospital. It's good you were one day away from 36 weeks. Once you get to 36 weeks the baby is preterm, not premature, and the problems that follow most premies dont affect a baby past 34 weeks.
