Hi,
You want to solve for x in both instances and see which entry your solution matches.
Prob 1)
(2/5)(x-1) = 8/15
x-1 =(5/2)(8/15) (A fraction multiplied by its reciprocal = 1.)
x-1 =4/3 (Cancel like terms in numerator and denominator.)
x= 4/3+1 (Subtract 1 from each side.)
x = 7/3

So, it looks like none of the above. Maybe you copied the problem wrong.

Prob 2:
2.7(x+5) = 17.28
x+5 = 6.4 (Divide both sides by 2.7
x = 6.5-5 (Subtract 5 from each side.)
x = 1.5
So, it's the last entry.

Hope this helps.

for the first one, you just divide 8/15 by 2/5 to get 4/3, then you add 1 to make x equal 7/3

for the second one, you divide 17.28 by 2.7 to get 6.4, and then subtract 5 to get 1.4

All you have to do is replace x, in BOTH QUESTIONS, with the elements given inside the set { } until you find the elements that make the equations given EQUAL or TRUE.

Get it?
