I just bought a 1970 Chev Nova that claims to have 330 hp at the wheels. Is this pretty close to stock hp for the original car? It has a rebuilt 350 in it with many after market parts. I havn't driven it yet as I bought it from ebay. I'm just wondering if I should expect some pretty good get up and go from it. Thx

It was dyno-tuned at 330hp at the wheels.

Great car man. You'll love it.

Stock with a 350 the car had 250 hp with the 2 bbl carb, 9.0:1 compression 350... or 300 HP with the 4 bbl carb and 10.25:1 compression 350..

The car's curb weight was 3143 lbs.. Optioned out it would probbly weigh a nother 150 lbs (with AC)

Should be a mid to high 12 second car (with good traction) with around 106 mph trap speed (1/4 mile times/speed)

330 hp at the wheels is about 75 hp more than it had stock. Novas are light in the rear and that kind of power will take some getting used to. Easy to do burn outs with but be careful in the rain. A Posi rear will help. Have one installed if it doesn't have one now. I had a 70 Nova with a factory six and could get a squeak out of the rear tires from a stop. The post about strengthening the body/frame is a good idea. They are called sub frame connectors. Enjoy your Nova.

Can am yes a 350 ci with 300+ hp was fairly standard back then and a little tweaking with a Holley carb and dual exhaust. What you have is a 1970 Camaro suspension / engine with a Nova body. Everything underneath is the same

If it came with the LT1 engine, it would be rated at 350 HP for an automatic and 360HP for the four-gear. from there it drops down to 300 and 275 HP. The best bet is to run the casting number on the block to see what you have, and go from there. You could ante up the dough and see if anyone close by has a chassis dyno. If the engine is supposed to have 330 HP gross, you should expect between 230 - 260 HP at the rear wheels.

If the HP rating was from the owner getting it Dyno'd it'll scoot pretty good. I'd recommend having the frame(Nova was uni-body) reinforced if you plan on really thrashing it, especially if it's a stick. I've seen cars that weren't, driving with only 3 wheels on the pavement. Happy motoring!

Considering that the car is fairly light, you should be happy with it. If not, then it's time to hit the speed shop. The 350 can build quite a bit of HP. Good luck with it.

congrads on your "new" nova, i had a 70 with a stock 275hp 350in and i loved the was it run,it was my daily driver and it did just that, for 10yrs.
try the car out just like it is, it maybe all you want,,you know that if you want more out of it,you can start parts changing.
good luck.

Not bad - if your not used to muscle cars - you will love this one.

Nice and light - plenty of power for the street.

I personally have a 1985 Chevy S10 - with a 383 stroker, about 500HP, or so. That is more that the street allows, kind of difficult to be gentle.
