I have an interesting situation. Someone is offering a frame for sale because they are going to use the engine for a chopper. I happen to know for a fact that Texas pays no mind to an engine, just the frame number. However, I believe the other person is convinced that they need to keep the title for proof of ownership on the engine. What should we do. The DMV is closed all weekend. Not sure I can convince him of the law. Does anyone have any web sites to illustrate this for him?

I'm getting it in the morning. His dad built a chopper and knew the law. It is my understanding that the only thing the state of texas is concerned with is that you don't have an engine in it that is registered as stolen. They let the cops on the street fight that one.

you only need a title to the frame. that is what the license plate will reflect.you can swap wheels motors tranny etc. and as long as the frame stays the same the title is good.

imagine blowing a motor, you replace it and go on.

wreck the bike and mangle the frame and you are at square one...good luck bro!

firecracker is correct here we have to prove where the parts came from when building a custom bike (all the major components) tank tins motor tranny it would be best to wait and see what paperwork is needed for the custom you might be able to get away with a bill of sale on the engine and keep the title with frame

Not exactly knowing the particular law down there, it's a hazard to guess. But here's mine.
If you build a vehicle from parts, you will need to prove ownership of them. He may want to keep it because he will not have an MSO for the engine otherwise.
