You grow emotionally, and you grow A LOT. Heartbreak is a miserable condition. I have felt it both of the romatic variety and the non-romantic variety, and I can honestly say it's one of the hardest things to go through in this world. For me, anyway, it always feels like the world is ending. In a way, I suppose it is, as the person I was gradually dies, and is reborn as a different, slightly changed person--a sort of phoenix, if you will. But heartbreak has always ended up being positive for me, in the long run. I have always had heartbreak followed by tremendous spurts of emotional growth, and long after it's all over with, I can look back and see that while it was a rotten situation, it was one that caused me to grow and learn and stretch in ways which are nearly impossible when everything is going well.
Be gentle with yourself if you have a broken heart. I can say from experience that it will get better.

The person that you become. I know it hurts pretty bad right now but take from someone who has been married and divorced and is now remarried it does get better.
The person that I am now my ex husband never knew and I think in some ways he wishes he did. We have a son in common and we are lucky in the fact that we were friends first and we are still friends.
I hope this helps all of you to see there really is an upside to heart break.

I've been there, the only upside is to move on, hopefully without baggage! I have been separated for 13 years now, it took me 8 of those years to find someone that is worth spending my time with!! Sometimes life really sucks, but in the end it is possible to find that someone special! Time heals all!!

I can't see any upside. It hurts like hell and sucks big time.
It heals with time, but that would be the upside of "this too shall pass."

Moving into the future.
If it was meant to be, it wouldn't have ended. If it wasn't meant to be, why be sad and heartbroken when it's over? Let the pain go and move on.
