Private savings were used to fund the McCann's unfortunate extended stay in Portugal.

How does that leave the people who said the fund was being used to fund their holiday. They have stated that the fund money will be used to help all missing children.

I dont want answers regarding the disapearance, just the question above please, those other types of questions have been done a 1000's times.

Maddy, I cannot prove that fund money has not been spent on accommodation, can you prove that it was. They have used their savings thats why they have to come home.

retox - they tell me nothing, like they tell you nothing. It is not me that is making up all kinds of theories on this case.

John M, my apologies, I am new to questions and answers, and I am enjoying the debate, I imagine most of what I am thinking has been debated to death over the last couple of months. New people join everyday, so maybe they could answer my type of question and the people that have answered similar questions in the past just avoid them.

Luke - I guess it all depends on which newspaper you read. So many different stories and none are the same.

As for the bloke above you, he is on the wrong message board...sensible answers only......

Thanks Maddy.

Luke - I appreciate your sensible reply, I have not given you a thumbs down, I would not have, even if I could have lol.

You breeze in here like a breath of fresh air!
Welcome Darcy38!
My thoughts exactly!
The McCanns have stated that the fund will be used to help other missing children if they receive closure regarding their own Madeline.
Why some folk keep harping upon them living like celebs & using the fund for it is beyond me.
How could anyone be envious of the McCanns???

This whole saga has been bizarre since day one and with so many twists and turns lately we do not know what is really going on behind scenes. I have smelled MrRat since 3rd of May cos we only have their word for it.

I thought the fund manager said last month that funds were needed to pay for accomodation for Gerry and Kate while they were out in Portugal. I mean nothing comes cheap nowadays.

So either way I get the feeling someone is not telling the truth. If the fund manager was running this thing properly I would expect him to know where the money was going so why would he make a statement about the fund supplying money to pay for accomodation? Just my opinions. ☺

Hi Darcy - welcome to the nuthouse. You really picked your subject (not!) but you've missed the worst part of the battle! heh!heh!!! Anyway I don't give a toss what's being said at the moment re the fund. There are so many contradictions you don't know WHAT to believe! Far as I'm concerned if there is money going out, then that should be reflected in the total stated on the Madeleine web page. I'd love to know just how much interest the fund has made so far! And how much has actually been spent on searching for Madeleine - the very thing it was set up for.

The fund stipulates that the money will be used for this purpose.

The fund manager and Uncle Brian have stated that the fund will be used to pay for accomodation.

After there is some critisism in the press about the fund money, Gerry states no money is being used for accomodation.

I agree with Dave S, someone is telling lies.

At the end of the day, as one of the (cleverly worded) stipulations is that the fund money will be used for expenses (this includes accomodation), therefore it could quite rightly be used to pay for their accomodation.

Sorry to disillusion you but as the expression goes if pigs could fly bacon would go up! Produce a copy of the accounts and prove it. Not a chance of this happening.

Edit: I understand what you are saying but there have been so many contradictions from all quarters on what happened that night, as you say, the other types of questions have been answered many times and many theories put forward but as I see it the only actual fact is that Madeleine is missing. There does not seem to have been any other truthful statement on any other aspect of this. I am afraid I do not believe any of the 'facts' or 'statements' put forward. I would dearly love to see the official accounts. If I am wrong then I stand corrected, I hope I am but I believe this has just been a money making scheme for the benefit of the parents on the back of the fate of this poor child.

Edit again: Welcome to the fray. My goodness you have picked one heck of a subject to join in with. We may not have the same opinions but good luck!

So far £70,000 has been spent on staff, housing, transport and communications.

Kate and Gerry McCann's campaign manager Justine McGuinness is also paid out of the funds.

The people who say it is just an extended holiday aren't worth bothering about.

According to reports, only £67,000 of the fund has been spent with the McCanns, themselves, having only claimed expenses for flights and accommodation on campaign-related trips and for stationery to make posters – although many people who have made donations would no doubt want and expect Kate and Gerry to use the money to go towards their living expenses while they are in Portugal.

Meanwhile, Esther McVey points out that invoices are continually coming in for various things including, for example, lawyers’ services. As a result, she says it’s difficult to give current numbers regarding monies spent, but says: “It’s significantly more than the quoted figure.”

EDIT - Darcy 38 it would appear there is no inconsistency, money has been provided for accommodation, but on campaign related trips.

EDIT - As you can see I get a thumbs down for doing some research, others get a thumbs up for sayiing the first thing that comes into their head and agreeing with Dave S.
(that wasn't aimed at you Darcy 38)

Huh ?... I thought I contributed to the fund to find Madeleine, not the other 10 million children who go missing in the world every year !... or will it only be used for missing British children abroad... who belong to professional parents... who go out on the piss and leave their children in an appartment on their own all night ?

Nobody knows at all.

It is all speculation.

People donated money because they wanted to, if you didn't donate, mind your own business!
