My boyfriend and I just got a kitten who needed a home or was going to get sent to the pound. We already have a grown cat who is pretty spoiled and lazy as is and never been around other animals. We brought the new kitten home on Wednesday and my boyfriend and I are being very careful with the two and been keeping them seperated when we're not home. We have been testing them out and trying to get them closer together but our older cat hisses and is scared at the same time. We can tell our older cat wants to check him out but still is acting funny. and the little guy wants to play with him so bad. So what do we do? What is the best way for them to get along?

The exact same thing happened to me so I read up on what to do to get them acquainted. Make sure they have separate litter boxes and food dishes at first so your first cat doesn't feel like it's territory is being taken over. Keep the kitten blocked in one room for a day or two so the older one can check him out on his time table then start letting the kitten into other areas as time goes on. Don't worry, with time they will be good friends. Good luck.

I don't think older cats are too rough on kittens. The new kitten may need to get smacked a few times before it learns to respect its elders and learns the pecking order. Slowly bring them together over time and they might learn to like each other at best, or at least tolerate each other. Cats aren't social animals so don't expect them to be friends.

Let them get on with it. Don't interfere too much but keep an eye on them to make sure that they don't hurt each other. They'll soon get used to each other and the older cat will realise that the kitten is there to stay.

It seems such as you're off to a reliable initiate. i could additionally rub Nyx with a towel and then positioned it interior the room with Nox so he can get used to her fragrance and after an afternoon or so rub Nox with the same towel. After a pair of days i could isolate Nyx for somewhat so as that Nox can get acquainted with the the remainder of the abode. It each and every so often takes cats some days so i could say do all of this and maybe in some week they are going to be pals.
