not significantly...that is as long as you are not rolling at all when the change takes place. if you are then yes, yes it does

Why would you possibly want to do that?
No, you won't wear out the trans, but you will wear out the shift cable. Plus there's the possibility of going from D into N and then into R. If you are moving when you do that, you may grenade the transmission.

let me guess ( you forgot to say)
you forgot to say your velocity ( 0 mph I hope)
You didnt say what car ( electric, gas, CVT tranny or ?)
what kind of car. So guess at regular vinalla car.
you bump it in to N at long red lights. ( you and many)
in many countries it is the law, to do so anything someone is in the crosswalk ( and a US military drivers lic. test Had one)
IT is good !
in neutral this engine burns less gas, (less load)
less smog, less wear on engine and tranny.
the only harm? is the shift linkage. ( a non issue, IMHO)
you are ingaging the bands but at Idle it is nothing for them.
Imagine the shifts when pulling a 5000 lb boat
You are also not heating up the tranny oil needlessly inside the fluid coupling. This saves the coupling and the oil.
Less load on bearings. ( they are free wheeling)

I've never heard of it doing that. I always shift into neutral at train crossings while waiting for train to get by. And in traffic jams while sitting not moving. Saves having to keep foot on brake all the time as well as takes strain off engine somewhat. But main reason for convenience.

why would you be doing that in the first place? if anything, it's putting stress on the load bearing parts every time you're putting the car back into drive. shifting to N from D to save on fuel has been proven ineffective if that's what you're doing. click and clack from cartalk wrote about this very issue.
