I don't know aboout the materials themselves. But if you have some actual wrapping paper, my unique way of wrapping something is to wrap it neatly in the wrapping paper, and then form a bow from the remains of the same wrapping paper (you can use tape to tie it together and shape so it looks pretty) and tape it on top of the gift. I use these paper bows, instead of the usual boring ones like this one http://www.orbitcast.com/archives/bow.jpg.
Now, I don't have a picture of what the bow I am talking about would look like on a gift. but shape it like a bow tie kind of bow. It will look cute!
And depending on a season, you can decorate with real flowers, mistletoe, or whatever you got!
Good luck!
Oh another idea: wrap your gifts like candy! Here is an example from my own picture:

As you can see, one of the gifts is wrapped and shaped like a candy. Doesn't it look cute??
Have fun!

Candle stick salad. it extremely is a recipe my sister contemporary in a mag quite a few years in the past and we've been doing it ever provided that. that is perplexing to describe in words, yet i will attempt. you start up by employing laying a sprint lettuce on a saucer. The on perfect of the lettuce you lay a pineapple ring. next you stand a million/2 piece of banana up contained in the pineapple ring, and shrink a small piece off the perfect of the banana (merely to make it flat.) then you definately mixture a sprint cherry juice in with some mayo, so it has a pink shade. Then pour, or scoop many of the pink mayo over the perfect of the banana and enable it run down the facets. the merely appropriate touch is a cherry on the perfect of the banana (use a toothpick to maintain it in place if mandatory) Lettuce + Pineapple ring = candlestick holder banana = candle pink mayo = wax from burning candle cherry = flame It makes an extremely sturdy appetizer, and something the babies can help in making.

If the recipient sews then you can wrap the present with fabric that can be used in a future sewing project
Comics from a newspaper can be used to wrap a child's present.
Junk ad mail can be reused to wrap anything for a handy person. and especially for someone who is environmentally aware.

Take regular brown craft paper (it comes in rolls and looks like what brown paper bags are made of) and stamp it. Use any kind of stamps you think the recipient would like. You can cut shapes from a sponge or from a raw potato (honest!) and use those to stamp the paper. Tempera or acrylic paints work best with the sponge or potato stamps.
With this slightly rustic-looking paper, raffia looks really good for bows. Jute cord (the rough tan macrame cord) is also good to tie this kind of package.

Bubble wrap, with a big silver bow. Fabric, try burlap, with jute string, or seasonal cotton[they have different prints for each season, Halloween, Xmas], even soft blanketing for a baby present. Use fabric ribbon.
Do a patchwork quilt.
Glue candy or gum wrappers.
