I'm a member of the CFR. Most junior officers in the military received a nomination to join the organization. So, I joined in 1971. It happens to be one of the biggest "think tank" on foreign policy. That's all. That's the problem with a lot of Ron Paul's devoted "rank and file". Too many seeking out cabals and conspiracies everywhere. He's not such a bad guy, but he needs to distance himself from the tin-foil hat brigade. Otherwise, like another decent fellow named Barry Goldwater, his followers will make him appear toxic to the majority of American voters.
