When I turn on my computer, the monitor stays blank. It will flash green for a few seconds then red, blue, white then black, over and over. There is no display, only colors. Before that happened it was just blank (black). Could this be the monitor or is it the connection between hard drive and monitor? Also,
when I turn it off and on it displays "monitor going to sleep"
for a few seconds. If anyone could give advise, it would gladly be accepted.

Hiya Waldo,

The monitor is not getting a signal from the computer or the monitor is damaged. Here are some suggestions to fix the problem:

1) Take the monitor to a different computer and test it there. If it works then you need to take a closer look at the computer. If it does not work, get another monitor.

2. The monitor works but not on your computer. If the PC is a desktop then unscrew and open the case. Locate the display adapter card if it is not built onto the main board. Unscrew and remove it with the power unplugged. Reinsert it and tighten it down. Check the pins in the plug at the end of the monitor for bent, broken or missing pins; there should be 15.

Close it up and power up.

Additionally, the CPU fan could have slowed or stopped causing the processor to overheat. This would allow the system to power up but no video signal will display. Before closing up the case cover, attach the power and turn it on for a few seconds to make sure you can see that the fan in the middle of the main board is turning.

GOOD LUCK!!

The best thing to do is simply try another monitor.
