Martin Brodeur...bottom line is a player is measured not only by his individual skill but what he can do for his team. Currently nobody measures up to the playoff success (not to mention numerous regular season records) of Brodeur at the moment. The 2 next best guys using that measuring stick have to be Nicklas Lidstrom and Scott Neidermeyer, both have history of success at playoff time and have raised multiple Cups. My list would have some different guys on it if the question was "Who is the most offensively skilled player in the NHL" but these 3 have earned their due as the leagues "best" (assuming best means overall contribution).

Skating wise it is Sidney Crosby. But everybody says he is the next Gretzky but people have been saying that forever and no one steps up to the plate. close behind him would have to be Zach Parise. Even though the two are the same in number of seasons played, Crosby is more of a role model, but Parise has more heart. Goalie wise is Martin Brodeur. I am not just saying him because I am a devils fan, but because he cannot be compared with any other goalie. But I am sick of Sidney crosby getting his clothing line and taking pictures with models. Gretzky did not do anything like that, and if Sid is supposed to be the next Wayne, he has to get his issues in order.
