Yea we could snuff it pretty much at any time right now. What with global warming, the world leaders not feeling too friendly, that planet that my come near us supposedly, and everything else.
Additional Details: Well as far as I can see we're about the worst thing to happen to this planet so yea life will probly be easier without humans.

First don't bleave every thing that you are told about global warming. Man kind will not die out. The sea may rise. Some of our magor food crops will no longer grow. But these kinds of change have happened in the past and humanity has survived them. (Think about it during the middle ages the see were 200 feet high and the land was 4 degree warmer.) Worst case the way we live our lives will change but man kind will survive.
In terms of other species a lot will die out leaving opportunities for new species to arise. Global warming will not end life on the planet but only drive evolution in one direction.
BTW did you read the retraction published by NASA the hottest year on record was 1934 and not 2005 as was reported. In fact from 20's to the late 30's the earths mean temperature was 2-3 degrees hotter then now. Kinda makes one think.

Even though humans have been able to adapt very well to the changing environment over thousands of years due to our large brain size and our ability to solve puzzles using intelligence, not just brawn, we have still existed only a tiny amount of time compared to other species. Who knows if when we will become an endangered species. There is very little genetic variation between humans, which is a common trait in endangered species. No one doubts that the Earth is warming, but who knows if we are the cause, part of the cause, or if the Earth is just having a natural warming period. It really depends on what kind of data you look at, or what charts you explore.

Although human life might become extinct for several reasons, I don't think it's likely. Our first adaptive evolution was from the sun-drenched African plain to the cooler northern climate of Europe. 2,000 years from now, mankind may look somewhat different than it does today, but it will have evolved to tolerate whatever conditions we are living in, global warming or not.

Whatever happens to humans, life will go on without us. It went on for 4 billion or so years without us in the past and can happily do so again.
