How do I engage my liberal sorority sister?

Question

She is a big time LIB and complains that my 1999 Ford Excusion takes up too much space in the back parking lot? She told my roomate that she hates my bumper stickers and thinks I am a facist. I try to be nice to her but I can see the hatred and disgust in her eyes? What can I do?

(My Bumper Stickers are "Peace through Superior Fire Power" & "PETA - People Eating Tasty Animals".

Plus I have several yellow ribbons to show my support for the troops!

If your car is taking up more than your fair share of the parking lot, she may have a valid complaint. You can't cry when you get a reaction to bumper stickers that were specifically designed taunt and to provoke a reaction from people just like her.

It takes two to tango and you have to admit that you are just as much in this dance as she is.

Apparently, you are quite proud of yourself and your Excursion (if you actually own one).

Personally, I could care less if you wallpapered your ENTIRE suv with ribbons and bumper stickers; it doesn't make you a better person or better American than anyone else.

And just in case you happen to be really big into the concept of conservatives being "self-sufficient," I could probably teach you a few things about that...

I am also a BIG TIME LIB, but I think there is a time a place to voice your opinions. This girl sounds very rude and tactless. I may not agree with what you are doing or your bumper stickers, but I also wouldn't judge you for having different opinions....I mean if we liberals are supposed to be open-minded, we have to remember that not everyone is going to agree. Also, when I do discuss things with people involving my belief systems I try to listen to their side too becasue I never know when I might leanr something, or just get into the psyche of why they think something. Anyway, rise abover her and be yourself. You are doing the right thing by still being nice, but don't let her intimidate you and if she ever man's up and says something to your face, make sure you stand up for yourself. Kill her with kindness :) ...and remember: "WE" AREN'T ALL THAT WAY!! :)

Kill her with kindness. Do not engage her in debate or make snide comments, as this will make your living situation tough. Just walk away if she is confrontational. Take the high road and she'll either be forced to follow along or make an @ss out of herself.

I'd be civil when I was around her but, past that, I'd ignore her. You have a right to your opinions just as she has the right to hers. It's called Freedom of Speech. Not everyone is going to like you. She can tell your roommate anything she likes. Let's see if she has the strength of character to say anything directly to you. Unless she does, I wouldn't give it another thought. Go on and enjoy your Excursion and your steaks!!

LOL, I have the same PETA sticker, and a t shirt with the "Peace..." on it.

My real sister is much the same way, the only way we've been able to communicate over the years is to just "agree to disagree", and we don't bring up politics very much anymore.

It's sad, but all you can do is sit her down and try to just explain that people who have differing points of view can still be friends.

Heck, my ex wife was a Lib and.....

You are going to meet all types of people that will disagree with you. If you spend your time worrying about them and/or getting there approval/friendship you won't enjoy yourself or the world around you. I suggest that you interact with her as needed, killing her with kindness when you do, and get on with your needs, education and enjoyment.

As long as there are Liberals, HATE will continue to spew forth.
They CREATE racism where there is none because it is their favorite CAUSE. (Not that racism doesn't exist, but true racism is rare.) They CREATE division by their demands . Without their causes they have no power.
They are blind to their own hatred so don't waste your time trying to change her.
Let her see for herself. It will take time.
The extreme left refuses to see they are supporting a Marxist/Socialist movement that will bring about a tyrannical government if they have their way.
Every demand for the Government to solve problems that can be solved by other means is a step toward bigger government and greater power in the hands of an elite few. (Ted Kennedy is a prime example - NO ethics on the Left side of the isle.)
NEVER vote for anyone advocating you give them your power. They will take YOUR power and use it against you.
Anyone promising more taxes, more control over what you say, eat, drink. drive, what you do with your property, gun control... YES that's another tyrant! Money, property, freedom of speech, and guns are POWER, don't give up YOURS.

Remind her of your freedom of speech.

Ask her if you started bashing her beliefs what she would think of that...I'm sure she would stand up for what she believes in. Which is why we live in America!

As long as you are are not pressuring her to take your beliefs why is it a big deal??? You are just expressing your opinion, she doesn't have to change her opinion. Try explaining it to her and letting her know she can still have her own opinions...people are weird in this way.
