Computer Monitor won't go into power saver mode?

I have a Dell Dimension E510 that won't go into sleep mode. I have tried different times for monitor to shut off plus rebooted computer but still no good?

Hi. Make sure there are no applications that keep the machine "live". This will be in "Task Manager". Try getting into sleep mode from "Safe Mode", which will not load anything but the minimum applications.
