I moved in 14 months ago and hired a moving company to move my ithings to FL with a total bill of $6k. During the move I had numorous issues and complained to the company.

It is customary for the movers to colect prior to unloading the truck, they did not collect. When they were done, I asked about payment and was told no payment was due "it had been credited". Nine months later I received a notice that I owed the moving company $6k. Initially I argued and now I am being told they are sending to an attorney to collect.

Take them to court. If you have phone records of when you called to complain, and how often, show the judge. Explain to the judge that you were told by the movers (if you have the guys names, that's even better) that is was taken care of.

Strange that 14 months after the fact that they are now trying to collect money. You can try to avoid being "served" papers by not answering your door to someone you do not recognize, not signing for a package that you did not order (from like UPS or FedEx). And don't talk to or look at strangers around your work, as they could be trying to get your attention to serve you papers.

I think you are going to have to fork out the 6K for services rendered.

I'm not that familiar with moving companies but seems like the movers/drivers would not handle any of the accounting such as collecting payment. Should have contacted the company directly to inquire about billing issues.

Check the appropriate tarriff which was in place at the time of move. Probably was 400N. I'm thinking you will have to pay though. Anyhow, if you received a service you should pay, and then go through the proper channels to make any necessary complaints and go from there. Good luck!

Pay the bill. You got the service so you owe them the money. Billing "errors" will not work in your favor and in the mean time, your credit could suffer for unpaid debts.

I am assuming you did not get "no payment due, it's been credited" in writing. You have no proof that anything of the sort was said to you, so legally you owe the money.

You used the service, just pay the bill. Just becasue they didn't bill you right away doesn't give you the right to stiff them.

You have to pay for the services you received.
