Is a person who enjoys having time alone in the same category as a person who is antisocial?

There is a big difference here. People who prefer to be alone may just be introverted, shy, phobic, partly autistic, etc. People with anti-social disorder are at war with society. They may have many friends, because they like to hang out in gangs. People who like to be alone don't find it boring. People with Anti Social Personality Disorder can't stand to be bored - they'd rather kill someone than be bored.

No, I prefer to be alone to going to events that are 6 hrs long. I am a home person, this began in childhood. My mom was mentally ill, you can guess we had few guests. So what do I do? I marry two men both of whom have 6 brothers and sisters. It wasn't until we (this husband) relocated and they all gathered at the local watering hole or made a fire at the farm to see who could drink the most (now here I am an addictions counsellor) my husband is sober. But he wants to see his family. After a few years he realised I wasn't 'anti social' I didn't enjoy that behavior, and once he realized they were using him as a designated driver he stopped seeing them. So we aren't anti social we just prefer to choose the company we keep. Life is so much calmer that way.

Anti social implies an unwillingness to interact with others, or a person actively avoiding social situations. This is different from someone who, if given a choice, would choose to be alone, but accepts social situations as a part of life and makes the best of it.

I consider someone to be anti-social if they go out of their way to be alone. People can prefer to be alone without being anti-social.
