I've been sitting back, reading and watching news since the war begun. And the one thing I can't seem to figure out is what Bush hopes to gain from this useless war.
Aside from an increase in military deaths, suicide, and the gain of universal hatred.
And the answer 'To spread Democracy!" won't work. Thats a load, and almost everyone knows it. You can't spread Democracy under a wannabe dictator. Almost an oxymoron.
I'm sure the ones who want to believe this are the Bush wads who still think this man is on the right track.
And before you try and insult me, sorry. I'm not a democrat, and certainly not a republican. I've lost faith in this wonderful country of ours to pick a side. And any insult you toss at me, I've heard before. So, feel free to say what you want.
So, what do you guys think?

I hate to tell ya buddy, but an insult is not quite an answer. Do I want like minded responses? Sure, thats what everyone aims for. Do I think you are smart simply because you use big words in a god awful format? Not really.
Anyone can answer, but it does not mean its a good answer.

Hey Kirk, I dunno if this idea could be fathomed by someone of your "awesome" logic, but some people would trade all the great freedoms and whatnot the U.S allows us, to be a country that is not hated by every other country. Would I? You are damn right I would. Better to lose a few freedoms, then to have everyone want me dead.

I think I agree with you. Democracy cannot be exported. The people of Iraq have to want it. Who knows what they want? Some, not all, wanted to be rid of Saddam, but who thought about the aftermath? Military deaths? check. Suicide and PTSD? check. Universal hatred? Huge check.
This is what will happen. No matter when we leave Iraq, it will fall apart. The Sunnis and Shiites have been fighting for more than 1300 years and now the Shiites are sabotaging their own prime minister. Is the surge working? Probably in places. We can keep the peace in Iraq if we keep pouring more troops in AND never leave. It's an artificial country created by Winston Churchill.
What does the President hope to gain? That's the easy part of your question. A place in history. He has achieved that. But history will not be kind to him. Ultimately, Osama Bin Laden will be more famous as a physically ill terrorist who hid from the U.S. successfully until his death, because I do not think we will ever catch him. We should have thought of that the night of 9/11 when the U.S. government enabled a plane load of Saudis that included the Bin Laden family to leave the United States. So, I'll get the thumbs down and you take the flaming. Ok with me--how about you?

Bush came into office determined not to make the mistake his dad made, which was to alienate his base. His dad's highest popularity came after the Gulf War, he went along with a tax increase and lost his base and it cost him a second term. GW Bush was determined not to do that.
Bush's base wants him to be sure. Not necessarily right, just sure. They don't see him as failing unless he admits he's failed. So Bush has never been able to admit a mistake. A -real- leader would recognize when he's made a mistake, would pull back and try a different strategy. But Bush has painted himself into a corner. If he shows a loss of resolve, he and his advisors believe they have given a weapon to the Democrats to use against him.
At this point, Bush's only strategy in Iraq is to keep it going as long as possible, keep insisting that progress is being made, and have this attitude echoed forever in the right-wing media.
He -was- waiting for the Democrats to take the war out of his hands so for years afterwards Republicans can say that we were winning and the Democrats made us lose. But apparently the Democrats aren't going to do that. So now Bush has no choice but to keep the war going until another president inherits it. He has actually said as much, that it will be another president who withdraws our troops from Iraq.
This will mean that Bush and his followers, and future GOP leaders will never have to admit that it was a mistake to go in there in the first place.

Theres a lot of things we don't know about what occurs in Iraq. The news in America actually generalizes a bunch of issues in this case Iraq the news in america is all about ratings people tune in and it sells even if its b.s. I know some people that have came back from Iraq and our main goal in there is try to liberate them. There is some wicked things happening out there. Mostly torture in certain cities, people being beheaded, people being steamed on the chest with a steamer, men poked on their private parts with a needle to death, drilled to death and many other things. We're buidling schools in Iraq and reforming the country day by day. Islam seeks the domination of the world. President Bush caught them before they were ready. Either they succeed soon, or they will never have another chance. We are planet and we are one the civlians of iraq need our help. Once we leave iraq Al-Queda will grow again so all the troops that died will be in vein. Wait untill a Democrat goes into Office thats when the next terroist attack will begin..

Sorry you have lost faith, your loss. We still live in the best country in the world, by all measures. As for the war, lets see.......Saddam did not live up to his end of the cease fire agreement from the first Gulf war. After the first gulf war was over, he used WMD's on his own people. Ignored at least 14 U.N. resolutions. While we did not find the WMD's, according to the Butler report, he was pursuing the programs to re-instate them as soon as the U.N. sanctions were lifted. He was funding terrorists in Gaza. I mean the list goes on and on. While you poo-poo the democracy angle, having a true free society, that is friendly to U.S. interests, in that region goes a long way in protecting our country. And who's hatred are you talking about........the Islamic fundamentalists have been at war with us for more than thirty years. The people of Iraq, for the most part are very pleased with what we have done. The terrorists that are killing people now, for the most part, are not from Iraq, but Islamic nut jobs that are being payed by Iran and Syria. And please do not forget that Congress gave him the go ahead......twice.

Even if you and everyone who disagrees, what is the answer?
Will you agree that when we leave, and we will at some point, that Iran and AlQueda is the most likely to rule Iraq?
I don't know either, but that probability is frightening.
Until the rest of the world realizes that, it is bound to happen. Disaster may be in store globally.

There are a very small group of wealthy people in this country that are getting richer because of this war. They happen to own GW Bush, and sadly, they own the Democrats too.

Why can we ought to "combat to the top"? the top of WHAT? what's it we are attempting to end? We "stand reliable" by soliciting for accountability and not combating terrorism by pushing aside the values we declare to hold so expensive. by ways it is the PRESIDENT who could be properly pronounced to income to "help our troops". If this fact confuses you, you needless to say have not been watching the information the previous couple of weeks. i ought to call the White living house, yet what i visit assert would be "slightly" diverse than "I show my help".

The question is, "What does he stand to gain by this war?"
Adding your commentary (the word useless) is ignorant and goes to show that you only want answers from people who think the way you do.
