We just moved into a new house and tried to use the dishwasher for the first time last night...it goes through all of the cycles fine and washes the dishes good, but it leaves a puddle of water at the bottom once it's done. How do I fix this so it'll drain right?

Run another cycle, depending on the model after final cycle it will leave about 1/4 in. in bottom around drain screen.

One other thing you might check is the garbage disposal. Our dishwasher drains through the disposal and the disposal has a hole you punch out if you have a dishwasher to allow the water to drain through. Since it is a new house its possible they forgot to do that when they installed the disposal.

well, i have a new dishwasher and it doesn't leave water in the bottom, the most common problem is a clogged drain pipe. make sure the drain pipe isn't kinked somewhere (if you can get to it). if you don't know what to do, you should call a repairman.

if it,s a small amount of water thats normal,
newer washers leave a small amout of water in the drain to keep it sealed, check the strainer in the tub , see if theres somthing around or in it, , could be a sticker from the washer,

You may want to try de-liming it with lime-away or CLR maybe. If the water is hard, it could be a build of of lime clogging it.
