What does baptism or God have to do with magic?
But if you're really Chirstian, then you already know that the Church and the Bible are against witchcraft. So you are bound from studying it or practicing it. As a Christian, you should only look to God, not your own power.
I'm Pagan, so magic is completely logical for me to practice. I don't believe in the devil or satan, etc. Magic has nothing to do with them, but the church will never accept that.

Honestly - do some research. I was baptized and confirmed christian and decided it didn't fit for me. I have chosen the wiccan way and have been a practicing witch for many years now.
There is no way to answer your questions or make you feel at ease about your curiousity except to satisfy it. Among authors I would recommend are: Scott Cunningham, Silver Ravenwolf, and Raven Grimassi. They are easily found in most book stores and even alot of libraries.
Do some reading and see where it takes you. Remember - religion is about faith - so the only real answer is for you to practice what you believe. The only way to decide what you believe is to investigate the options.
Whatever you decide -- I wish you good luck and every happiness.

well if you are christian than no you should not do magic because it would be against your religion. magic and magick are two different things. magic is stuff like pulling a rabbit out of a hat or casting a spell. and no I do not believe this is real. Magick is a religious part of pagan ceremonies. its really no different than praying or communion in a way. communion is just a religous ceremony to cleanse the soul and in the same way there are magick rites that pagans do.
I am pagan now but was baptized Lutheran.

Magick, by itself, is a tool. Like fire, it is neither good nor bad. It's defined by how it's used.
I don't recommend it for everyone. Yes, everyone has the potential for it, but not everyone has the inclination to put the time and effort into becoming proficient with it. But it might be worth looking into for you. You might find you have a talent for it, and want to develop it. There are a number of excellent books that will help you, if you do.
Your religious beliefs can have as much or as little to do with it as you wish. Some religions forbid magick. Others embrace it. I incorporate magick as part of my worship, but others separate the two entirely. My personal view is that the gods gave us magick as yet another tool by which we can get what we need, just as they gave us frontal lobes and opposable thumbs.

Practising magic is an art not a religion, if you believe in God and worship him then be baptized, if you believe in the devil then do whatever those people do. If you think you have a gift or talent for magic then use it for your benefit or that of others but it shouldnt influence you on your spiritual belief.

I think if the whole subject of magic is causing you this much stress, you need to focus your attention on just reading up about it. Deal with the history of it first. There are many types of 'magic' and its a big field. Do you want to have it as the spiritual backdrop of your life, or do you want to use it as magic trick type entertainment?
Figure that out first before you dive in...

Magic itself is neither good nor bad. It is the intent of the caster that makes it good or bad. If your intent is to bring benevolent energy into your life to heal or to help, then it is good magic. If you intend harm to someone else, it is bad and will come back threefold to bite you in the ***. Good magic comes back threefold too, but bringing positive energy into your life. And you can practice magic even if you are Christian, in fact, there is no way anyone can avoid using magic at least subconsciously. Magic is wishing or praying, spells are simply ritualized and focused wishes and prayers, but even unfocused, the results are still magic.

For good or ill its real! Magick does work, but not like on "Harry Potter"There is a decision you need to make. Christian or Pagan. Because the church does not condone the use of Magic.

I was into it all for a little while. It can be fun even though little to nothing really comes from it. If you want to be serious about look into Wicca. Just be prepared to be chastised if you mention it to the religious type.
