The whole thing revolves around the way you want to use your vessel.When you say long distances do you mean off shore or on shore.My personal liking is for multi hulls for coastal cruising and monohulls for deep water sailing.For coastal cruising it is easier to get well inshore with a shallow draft multi hull and plenty of deckspace to play about during the day where as the monohull I feel is best for long deep water cruises where safety and strength are paramount.
