It should hurt a bit when you first use a tampon but it shouldn't hurt when you walk or sit down. If it does then you haven't put it in right. Personally, I think that you have used a tampon too soon. You should wait until your periods are more regular.

You are either using a tampon that is too large for you, or you have not inserted it correctly. In addition, you might be having a lite day, which would cause you to be dry, coupled with a wad of cotton on a string, yeah, that can be cause for discomfort.

Is sexual intercourse (if active) painful too? Women with vulvodynia and vestibulitis often report report vaginal discomfort while walking and sitting during their period when they use a tampon.
Try using those slender-sized tampons, see if that releaves your discomfort.
Something that comes to the top of my mind: a tipped uterus? The tampon could be pushing up against your uterus if it is tipped.

are you actually on ur period?
coz if not, ur vagina could be dry, and so it would feel rougher than when ur on ur period.
it might not be in properly.
wen u put it in, did ur fingers tht were holding the applicator touch ur body? coz they shud for it to be in properly.
if you can feel the tampon when ur just still, its not in far enough. take it out, and try again
make sure youve read the instructions thouroughly first
good luck

It hurts because it isn't in correctly. Take it out and try again. It shouldn't hurt.

it sounds as tho you haven't inserted the tampon enough! it takes a while to get use to using them! please remember to change them regularly (every 4-6 hours)!
