I'm a Catholic, so I cannot support the death penalty. However, I don't buy for a MINUTE that he is mentally retarded. I think that this guy deserves rotting in jail for the rest of his life, death would be an easy way out. Having worked in a jail before I can tell you he will not have it easy...child killers and rapists are the lowest of the low and subequentially treated as such by the other inmates.

What you didn't say was that they also reported that in order to be considered mentally retarded your score must be 70 or below. John Couey's average score was 78. Save the taxpayers money, no death penalty, just life in prison with the general population. Those who are in the general population for the rest of their lives will see to it that John Couey gets the ultimate punishment. It took them a few years to get to Jeffery Dalmer but they did!

Absolutely. I do not believe he is mentally ill in the sense that he is not aware and responsible for his own actions. He knowingly and deliberately kidnapped, raped and killed that little girl. Then he hid out and left town.
Anyone who can do that obviously has mental problems, but that does not and should not prevent him from being held accountable for his actions.
I am so tired of hearing the excuses of childhood abuse being used as a defense for bad behavior. Bad behavior is a choice!

Anyone that could do, what he did to that beautiful child, has to be mentally sick. The death penalty is totally appropriate in this case and should be upheld. He knew what he was doing was wrong and that alone is enough to put him to death in my opinion.

I don't believe in the death penalty at all because you can't kill someone to show that killing is wrong. it makes no sense. I think he should spend life in the lock up.

Nothing that can be possibly done to that complete piece of trash that is bad enough compared to what he did to that little girl. I have no mercy for him whatsoever.
